Summary:
"Benjamin Lebel is a luminary in his field: an internationally renowned wine expert who publishes a keenly-awaited new guide every year. When the local police chief enlists his help in the hunt for a serial killer who combines murders with Grand Crus, Benjamin's intuition and his nose are stimulated by the puzzling case. They both prove infallible as he works his own investigation in the sumptuous settings of the loveliest wine-growing regions in France. Bitten by the investigative bug and welcomed by the police as an expert, he seeks out new mysteries to solve in the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards and in the regions of Cognac and Champagne. Adapted from the crime collection published by Fayard, Blood of the Vine is a series of full-bodied, yet light thrillers! The Tears of Pasquin - It's a puzzling crime scene: the corpse of an old man lies next to a full glass of wine and a cryptic row of empty glasses. The local police cheif enlists Benjamin Lebel's help to identify the wine's vintage, and before long he and his assistants are conducting their own parallel investigation. Le Coup de Jarnac - Benjamin and his assistant are turned away when they arrive at the Castle Aludel in Jamac to audit their books and reserves. But the next day one of the heirs of the family Aludel is found dead on the castle grounds. The timing of the visit and the death seem an unlikely coincedence to Benjamin. Margaux's Robe - When Benjamin's only daughter and her boyfriend, the sales director of a prestigious Bordelais chateau, are in a car accident, he steps in to investigate once when he learns that sabotage could have been involved. The personal nature of the investigation drive Benjamin to seek justice. Mission in Passaic - Benjamin is called in to investigate the contamination of wine stocks owned by his former assistant. The most likely suspects are a group of investors who are interested in buying his vineyard - not for its wine production but for the land. Benjamin, however, has his own suspicions."--Container.
