The name includes the island of Hong Kong, the Northern Territories, the peninsula of Kowloon, and several outlying islands. But it's the dynamic cosmopolitan center that most visitors see. Here, East meets West, and the blending of cultures has had a fantastic influence on the food, the night life, and the shopping. And the people are amazing. Xi'an is the current capital and principle city of the Shaanxi province in China. Known as the Eternal City, Xi'an is hailed as one of the four great ancient capitals of China. Surrounded by the water and hills of central China, Xi'an is literally living history. Its desirable location and rich cultural history make Xi'an a favorite tourist destination. Visitors flock to Xi'an to see amazing sights, like the Greater and Lesser Wild Goose Pagodas, the magnificent city wall, and the various religious temples. But the most popular, and my personal favorite, is seeing the terracotta warriors. The fishing village of Zhujiajiao is literally living Chinese history. This is one of the most interesting day trips you can experience. Make sure to have extra film or memory cards, this peaceful little village is picture perfect. The most photogenic part of the excursion to Zhujiajiao is on a sampan. Cruising the canals the area's so famous for. No motors here, these cruise the old-fashioned way.
