    Summary:
"The Great Ecstasy of the Sculptor Steiner: Undoubtedly the greatest sports film -- although calling it a sports film is a bit like calling The Seventh Seal a chess film -- this lyrical documentary is about Walter Steiner, a Swiss wood carver and champion ski jumper. Herzog's presence in the film as a low-key but passionately involved commentator is a measure of his intense identification with this unique man who is compelled to take his creative impulse to the absolute limit. How Much Wood Would A Woodchuck Chuck: Set in the Amish region of Pennsylvania's Lancaster County, this off-beat documentary on the annual World Championship of Livestock Auctioneers chronicles a lively spectacle: bidders and their secret signals, splendid beasts up for auction, a colorful audience, and conversations in archaic German with the Amish folk. Best of all are the high-speed incantations of the auctioneers showing a language both zany and beautiful. La Soufrière: In 1976, scientists predicted a volcano eruption that would destroy Guadeloupe. The island was evacuated; the newspapers reported that one man refused to leave. Herzog immediately arrived with a small crew in order to be on hand for the end. This fascinating study of imminent disaster and the man 'who stays' is one of Herzog's major works."--Container.
