Born out of the Japanese kawaii (cute) obsession, Deco is short for decorate and Den comes from the Japanese word denwa, meaning phone. Yes, this craze started with blinged-out cell-phone cases. The DecoDen look is over-the-top sparkle and embellishment, and the aim is to be as decadent and whimsical as possible. The embellishments range from crystal pave to bedazzled Hello Kitty figures to faux icing and tiny cabochons in the shape of anything from a robot-bear to a chili dog. Electronic devices are pretty nondescript on the outside for the most part, so decoden-covered cases serve the dual purpose of protection and self-expression. This booklet offers the basics of using decoden and twenty projects.
