Summary:
Twelve-year-old Hanata has a peaceful spirit. She loves exploring the land surrounding her prairie home, picking berries with her friend Koko, and making toys for the smaller children in her camp. But Hanata's life is far from carefree. Everything - from the food she eats to the clothes she wears to the tipi she lives in to the toys she makes - is provided by the innii, or buffalo. When a harsh winter storm descends on the land, Hanata's worst fears come true. The buffalo disappear, the food supply dwindles, and her people grow hungry. All hope is lost until Hanata has a dream that leads her on a journey up into the mountains in search of a magical stone that can bring back the innii. Based on the traditional Blackfoot story, The Legend of the Buffalo is a tale of community, courage, and our deep connection to the planet and all its creatures.
