She begins a career as a writer in London, navigating the treacherous waters of a world where, even in the liberal and feminist media, transgender identities go unacknowledged, misunderstood or worse. Jacques starts to become the person she had only imagined, and begins the process of transition. Her memoir is an exploration of the debates of trans politics. Includes an epilogue with Sheila Heti, author of How Should a Person Be?, discussing the cruxes of writing and identity. Freelance writer Juliet Jacques is best known for her Guardian newspaper series "Transgender Journey" a serialised account of her gender reassignment process. She lives in London.
