On the occasion of his 70th birthday Borg shares his 'convictions' about Christianity and America, contending that they are both at their best when they focus on hope and transformation, and shares his thoughts on how American Christians can return to what matters most. Marcus J. Borg (1942 – 2015) was canon theologian at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, Oregon and was a former Hundere Distinguished Professor of Religion and Culture at Oregon State University. Borg was among the most widely known and influential voices in progressive Christianity and was a major figure in scholarship related to the historical Jesus.
