    Summary:
Louis R. Comeau has always been an advocate for the Acadian community and has used his energy, foresight and skills to be an agent of change. Born in Meteghan, Digby County, Nova Scotia, he earned an engineering and science degree from Saint Mary's University, then graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree from Dalhousie University. As a Progressive Conservative Party member, he was elected to the House of Commons in 1968, representing the South Western Nova riding, which included the Acadian regions of Argyle in Yarmouth County and Clare in Digby County, as well as parts of the Annapolis Valley. He was at the forefront of the shift that bilingualism and biculturalism brought to the status of French-language minorities in Canada in the 1970s. In 1971 he was appointed president of Collège Sainte-Anne. In 1977 he became chief executive officer of the sawmill business his grandfather had started in Meteghan, E.M. Comeau & Sons. In 1983 Premier John Buchanan appointed Louis Comeau president and CEO of the newly created Nova Scotia Power Corporation.
