    Summary:
The McAdams Lake Formation in central Cape Breton Island is one of the earliest records of sediment deposition in the Devonian-Carboniferous Sydney Basin. The purpose of this paper is to report the results of recent mapping of this formation, which has led to the establishment of an internal stratigraphy as well as an interpretation of the structural history and of the significance of the formation in regional tectonic models. Information is included on the geological setting, formation age, palynology, lithology of the individual members of the formation, folding and thickness, depositional environment, tectonic implications, regional correlations, and economic potential.
