    Summary:
Seventeen-year-old Arkansas natice Riley Jo thought that leaving small-town Arkansas behind for an arts-based boarding school in Los Angeles would be the beginning of her new life. A life where she'd be surrounded by fellow young musicians who are also following their dreams, and where she would no longer be one of the few Asians in her class -- a life where she could finally feel like an average American teen. Once she arrives in LA, she joins a school band, ready to make music. But the band's nepo-baby front man, Bodhi Collins, uses his status to force Riley to play back up in her own original song because she's "too Asian" to be a lead singer. And while Rily now has a lot os Asian American classmates, she's feeling misunderstoof by them too. When she doens't speak out against her band, she's labeled "white-washed" and as a "self-hating Asian." Rily must decide who she is in order to stnad up to those telling her who they think she should be. But will she be able to use her music to cut through the noise around her?
