Summary:
Graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat was in Brooklyn, New York in 1960. His father came from Haiti. His mother was born in Brooklyn of Puerto Rican parentage. He became notorious for his graffiti
art
under the moniker Samo in the late 1970s on the Lower East Side of New York. Later on, his work was exhibited on the walls of the city's most prominent galleries, Jean-Michel Basquiat was catapulted to international fame in his early 20s and died of a heroin overdose at the age of 27 in 1988. The subject of a feature film "Radiant Child" by fellow artist Julian Schnabel, Basquiat is one of the most admired artists to emerge from the 1980s
art
boom. This book explores his short but prolific career.
