So auch beim Sederabend der Familie von Salomon. Zwischen den rituellen Liedern, dem Auszug aus Ägypten und der Suche nach der versteckten Matze wird erzählt, gelacht, provoziert und gestritten. Die Enkelin taucht im Palästinensertuch auf, die Tochter bekommt eine ihrer berüchtigten Schreiattacken, der Schwiegersohn verdrückt sich beim geringsten Anzeichen von Streit. Salomon selbst reißt KZ-Witze, die abgesehen von ihm, dem Auschwitz-Überlebendem, keiner zu schätzen weiß. Aber dieses Jahr ist alles anders, Salomons Frau Sarah lebt nicht mehr. Ihre Liebe und stille Nachsicht waren es, die die Familie immer zusammenhielten. Bis Kinder und Enkel eintrudeln, bleiben Salomon noch ein paar Stunden. Wie die Erinnerung an Sarah, an das gemeinsame Glück, aber auch die schweren Zeiten bewahren? Wie dieser ƯFamilie mit all ihren Neurosen ein neues Zuhause geben?     What an art it is to keep a family together! This becomes clear to old Salomon when his wife dies and he has to host his first family celebration without her. Every year the family comes together on the holiday and every year there are the same discussions, the latest anecdotes are sharred. The same thing this time at the Seder evening of the von Salomon family. Between the ritual songs, the exodus from Egypt and the search for the hidden matzohs, stories are told, laughed at, and argued. A granddaughter appears in Palestinian cloth, the daughter gets one of her notorious crying attacks, the son-in-law disappears at the slightest sign of argument. Salomon makes concentration camp jokes, which, apart from him, the Auschwitz survivor, nobody can appreciate. But this year everything is different, Solomon's wife is no longer alive. How can he preserve the memory of his wife? How can he give his family a new home with all of its neuroses? All the melancholy and provocative jokes of a survivor. Joachim Schnerf wrote a wonderfully sensitive novel about what it means to find family and life in the face of the loss and horror of the past.
