Summary:
A collection of specially commissioned essays celebrating the poet's life and work, and exploring his lasting legacy. Edited by his granddaughter, Hannah Ellis, the book is arranged thematically and divided into three parts concerning
Thomas
' early years, later life and his lasting legacy. Includes essays from noted biographers such as David
Thomas
and Clive Woosnam who explore
Thomas
's lasting legacy both at home and abroad, and Welsh poet laurete Gillian Clark who reflects on the impact of the seminal "play for voices," Under Milk Wood. Also includes essays by poet Owen Shears and BBC Radio 6 presenter Cerys Matthews, as well as numerous testimonies and poems from the likes of former president Jimmy Carter, Phillip Pullman, and actor Michael Sheen. With a foreword by comedian and former Monty Python Terry Jones, this is a rich and personal reflection on the lasting legacy of Britain's greatest poet. Born in Swansea, Wales,
Dylan
Thomas
(1914 - 1953) was a poet and writer, whose works include the poems "Do not go gentle into that good night" and "And death shall have no dominion"; the 'play for voices' Under Milk Wood; and stories and radio broadcasts such as A Child's Christmas in Wales and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog. He became widely popular in his lifetime, and remained so after his premature death at the age of 39 in New York City.
