    Summary: 
    Born in Toronto in 1900, Edward Samuel 'Ted' Rogers Sr. learned about about wireless telegraph in school at the age of eleven. He then built his own telegraph set to send and monitor Morse Code signals. As a teenager he became a Marconi wireless operator aboard Great Lakes passenger vessels. During a 1921 radio contest he successfully sent a signal from Newmarket, Ontario to Androssan, Scotland, the only Canadian to achieve the feat. In 1924. He invented the world's first successful alternating current radio tube, enabling radios to use household electric current rather than batteries. In 1927 he established radio station CFRB in Toronto. His son, Ted Rogers Jr. went on to build the Rogers internet and media empire.
