    Summary:
Grandma Bendy has twisty, twizzly arms and super stretchy legs. In the olden days she was an excellent burgular until a taste of her own medicine had her change her ways. Grandma Bendy is the tale of an old woman who has spent her life in jail after as a young woman she confessed her crimes of breaking into other people's homes, with the aid of bending her flexible body parts to steal other peoples stuff. Now an old woman she is constantly mocked by a mouse in the illustrations, and has had to make the decision on which moral path to take (literally there's a sign with arrows one way pointing baddies, the other goodies). Grandma Bendy is certainly a good book to teach kids that there are consequences to bad behaviour (ie ultimately jail) and to make them think about what it would be like to return home and find all their stuff stolen by someone else. The fact that the old lady has over the top limbs adds to the entertainment factor and the basic illustrations are quite fun. The only glaring obvious question that is never answered though is, if Bendy went to jail when she was alone and childless as a teen or very young woman and wasn't released until she was an old lady, (a pretty harsh prison sentence for the crime) how did she get an opportunity to get pregnant and have at least one child who in turn had children so she can be Grandma Bendy? Then again this picture book is supposedly written by a penguin so maybe they don't think about this sort of thing being there aren't any prisons in Antarctica.
