The purpose of this publication is to celebrate the outstanding achievements of members of Her Majesty’s Canadian Forces (CF). While the granting of the honour or award itself constitutes the appropriate recognition of their actions from Crown and Country, this is only the beginning. Their stories and achievements must be communicated to other CF members and all Canadians for the true meaning of 'honouring' to be achieved. Their service epitomizes the highest standards of devotion to duty, courage and leadership in the military profession. Beyond the presentation of their insignia, these individuals become role models and their actions inspire others to emulate their behaviour, and instil pride in our country. This publication will allow everyone to understand the array and number of honours and awards granted to CF members and share the amazing stories of these outstanding Canadians. The scope of each annual publication is limited to the honours and awards publicly announced during that year as opposed to the date of approval or presentation of the award. The announcement date is determined eithe by the Rideau Hall press release, the publication of the CANFORGEN or the publication of the award in the Canada Gazette, whichever comes first. The honours and awards included are only those awarded to CF members and members of allied forces or civilians working with the CF, that are either administered by the Department of National Defence or in which award process the Department is somehow involved. CF members regularly receive honours from other sources, which while being authorized for wear, are not recorded here. For example, a reservist who is also a police officer may be awarded the Police Exemplary Service Medal or made a member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, these honours are not recorded herein.
