    Summary:
"Begins with a demonstration of how to construct a Potawatomi Puzzle Pouch. Easy to make and difficult to open, this tricky pouch is an excellent brainteaser and a good interactive project for young people. Next, we move on to examine the history of humour in native art. We investigate the ancient significance of the 'trickster' in traditional indigenous culture through interviews and narrative. Professor Allan Ryan describes the significance of humour in art as we look at the Hopi clown, a central character in Hopi ceremonies. We examine the significance of the raven and coyote in traditional society, and look at ways contemporary Aboriginal artists like Lawrence Paul incorporate satirical content into their work. These subtle personal commentaries help to deconstruct stereotypes about indigenous people and art. Finally, host Tamara Bell makes a magic bracelet with deer hide and beads. This junior craft is excellent for young children and can be a great activity for schools."--Container.
"'The creative native' is a lively ongoing series that demonstrates the step-by-step process of creating traditional and contemporary indigenous crafts. Host Tamara Bell introduces unique artists and craftspeople, providing a greater understanding of indigenous culture and its art. The series has strong thematic episodes, distinctive indigenous music, and Aboriginal languages. Episodes contain artist profiles, in-depth interviews, traditional and contemporary art projecs and historic snapshots that emphasize the Aboriginal cultural contexts relevant to the them of each episode. Many of the episodes focus on youth, with projects suitable for a wide range of audiences."--Container.
