    Summary:
Irene Adler has withdrawn to the Downs and become adept at bee keeping. Then her bees begin to die, first one hive and then another. It appears someone has introduced an American strain of foulbrood. She determines to present the case to Holmes. But in London, Adler soon discovers people have been waiting for her arrival, people who sign their notes "KKK", clearly a link to the Openshaw incident. Those who actually killed Openshaw had met their fate, but others, associates, could not be apprehended. Someone has plotted revenge, and the first victim is young Anna, who used to work for Holmes. A note at the murder scene makes it clear that Holmes and all those he cares for are targets for revenge.
