Alternate title:
Space suit
Edition:
American edition.
Description:
1 volume (unpaged) : colour illustrations ; 27 cm.
Notes:
The inspiration behind this book. This story was inspired by Eleanor "Ellie" Foraker. Eleanor was born in Kenton, Delaware and worked at ILC Dover for 43 years. A talented seamstress and manager, Ellie was truly dedicated to the making of spacesuits. She also helped make gas masks, underground inflatable oil tanks, and landing bags for Mars missions.
Summary:
Ellie loves to sew. Little does she know that one day her sewing skills will launch into space in the shape of the world's first spacesuit. Inspired by true events, this title shows how the sewing skills of a team of women bested some of America's top scientists and engineers to design the spacesuit that would eventually be worn on the first mission to the moon.
