Summary:  Grand-Pré lies at the eastern edge of the Annapolis Valley several kilometres east of the town of Wolfville on a peninsula jutting into the Minas Basin surrounded by extensive dyked farm fields, framed by the Gaspereau and Cornwallis Rivers. The community was made famous by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem Evangeline and is today home to the Grand-Pré National Historic Site. The Grand Pré Trails Society was established to create a trail along the existing rail through Grand Pre. Formed as a not-for-profit Society in 2014 to kickstart the realisation of the Grand Pré to Wolfville rail-to-trail initiative. It allows for the Landscape of Grand Pré World Heritage Site to become the easterly anchor, closest to the Halifax metro area, of the proposed 113 kilometre Destination Trail from Grand Pré to Annapolis Royal.
