"At 16, Maajid Nawaz was a member in Hizb ut-Tahrir, a London-based Islamist group which has as its aim the re-establishment of "the Islamic Khilafah (Caliphate)" or Islamic state, to be ruled by Shariah law. He became a top recruiter, a charismatic spokesman for the cause of spreading Islam's polical power across the world. Nawaz was setting up satellite groups in Pakistan, Denmark, and Egypt when he was rounded up in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, along with many other radical Muslims. He was sent to an Egyptian prison where he was jailed along with the assassins of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. The assassins' 20 years in prison had changed their views on Islam and violence.
