    Summary:
In A Land As Green As The Sea, Tom Radford weaves a very personal film about his Scottish ancestors who found their way to Canada and established themselves as frontier journalists. "A Land As The Green As The Sea" is also the title of an old Scottish emigrant's song about the inspiration of a journey to the New World. It aptly describes the rolling parkland and prairie landscape that filmmaker Tom Radford's grandmother, Gertrude Hogg, must have seen from the train window as she travelled West in 1905. In Edmonton, Gertrude and her husband established a community newspaper, and were later awarded a Pulitzer Prize for confronting the Alberta government in 1936 over the notorious Press Bill. Though his grandparents died in the 1960s, Tom Radford continues to piece together the fragments of memory, separating fact from fiction, sifting through boxes of old photographs and letters. To his surprise, he discovers that the root and glue of the Scottish immigrant experience is Celtic music.
