Summary:
The exhibition consists of wall-mounted maps of the world produced by the nations of this elite economic and political group; each map is written in the 'official' language of the publishing country. Through the manipulation of projection systems and framing devices, all cartographic publishers have located their country towards the center of the world on their version of the global map. Overlaying each map on center-opening Plexiglas doors is the painted image of the publishing country's national flag. When the doors are opened, the publishing country is always evident in the centre of the map while other countries are marginalized to the edges. Peter Dykhuis was born in London, Ontario. He graduated in 1978 with a BFA from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, then moved to Toronto, where he remained until relocating to Halifax in 1991.
