Summary:
"Towards an Encyclopedia of Local Knowledge is an ongoing collaborative art-and-knowledge project that exists in multiple forms, this website being one. It also exists as unbound printed panels or "pages" in community-owned boxed sets and will soon exist as a hard-covered book of "excerpts". The Encyclopedia project recruits art, community collaboration, and place-based research as a way of making and moving knowledge that is often never documented in ways that can be shared."--From encyclopediaoflocalknowledge.com website.
"From boat-building to berries, from knitting socks to mending nets, the rich, place-based knowings and doings of more than one hundred knowledge-holders from
rural
Newfoundland. Artist Pam Hall perfectly marries her singular artistic vision and her exhaustive community-based research in a stunning celebration and preservation of
rural
knowledge. These images and texts come together to reveal and revalue the local in a time when global monoculture seems overwhelming. Pam Hall is an interdisciplinary artist, scholar, film-maker, and writer. She currently lives in St. John's, Newfoundland"--Provided by publisher.
