It shows us abandonment, poverty and violence, as well as loyalty, love and hope, through the eyes of a homeless ten-year-old boy on the streets of a riotous Bombay. Lost in the city, Chamdi meets two street children, Sumdi and his sister Guddi, who treat Chamdi as one of their own, and help him beg on the streets. But Chamdi has greater plans. He believes that one day all sorrow will die and Bombay will be known by a new name, Kahunsha - "the city of no sadness". He tries to create that city through his own willpower. Set against the backdrop of Bombay's 1992 riots, The Song of Kahunsha is both a fascinating look at a brutal and bewitching city, and an astonishing paean to the power of imagination.
