Zwischen den beiden Kindern und ihren Familien knüpft sich ein enges Band. Sie alle müssen erleben, wie die Zentrale der Hitlerjugend in das Kaufhaus einzieht und die jüdischen Besitzer aus Deutschland vertrieben werden. Nach dem Krieg wird das Gebäude zum Institut für Marxismus-Leninismus der SED, wo Bernhard zu arbeiten beginnt. Krieg und Mauer trennen die Familien - doch Elsa und Bernhard bleiben einander nahe. Ein atmosphärischer Roman über Liebe und Zugehörigkeit - ausgehend von der wahren Geschichte des Hauses in der Torstraße 1. Sybil Volks lebt in Berlin als freie Autorin und Lektorin. Der Roman "Torstraße 1" erzählte von zwei Familien und einem geschichtsträchtigen Gebäude im Herzen Berlins.
