Ogami meets five challengers on the road, and after defeating each one he receives part of his required fee. He also learns the story of a daimyo without a male heir who has registered his daughter as a son and raised her as a boy. Hired by the daimyo to eliminate a rogue lama with evil intentions on the throne, Ogami carries out his part of the bargain, then sets off for the daimyo's castle to set things right.
