As the city prepares to receive the body of the Unknown Soldier, three women try to overcome the difficulties of the Great War and loss: Hettie, a young woman who rented to dance; Evelyn, a rich heiress who helps veterans, and Ada, a mother who thinks he sees the ghost of her missing son in the battlefield. One day, a man knocks on the door of Ada and announces a secret war happened in linking the fate of the three women and serve to close wounds. Awakening opens like a game of Chinese boxes-an impossible love story, a narrative of the role of women in the Great War and closes at the dawn of a century in which innocence is lost forever.
