    Summary:
Okey Ndibe's funny, charming, and penetrating memoir tells of his move from Nigeria to America, where he came to edit the influential (but forever teetering on the verge of insolvency) African Commentary magazine. It recounts stories of Ndibe's friendships with Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka, and tells of Okey's own development as a novelist; examines the differences between Nigerian and American etiquette and politics; recalls an incident of racial profiling just 10 days after he arrived in the US, in which he was mistaken for a bank robber; considers American stereotypes about Africa (and vice-versa); and juxtaposes African folk tales with Wall Street trickery. All these stories and more come together in a generous, encompassing book. Okey Ndibe is a novelist, political columnist, and essayist. He was born in Yola, Nigeria. He moved to the United States in 1988 at the invitation of famous Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe. In the United States, Ndibe helped to found the magazine African Commentary. He is the author of Arrows of Rain and Foreign Gods, Inc., two critically acclaimed novels published in 2000 and 2014 respectively.
