José Saramago (1922 - 2010) geboren in Azinhaga in der portugiesischen Provinz Ribatejo, entstammt einer Landarbeiterfamilie. Der Romancier, Lyriker, Dramatiker und Essayist erhielt 1998 den Nobelpreis für Literatur.

Author is the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, 1998.
