A Burlesque on Carmen: In the original opera, the beautiful Carmen lures Don Jose, a soldier of the king, to desert the army and join her and a band of smuggling gypsies. He falls in love with her, only to have her leave him for another man. After repeated failed attempts to win her back, Don Jose kills her and committs suicide. This parody of the world famous opera, featuring outrageous subtitles and Chaplin's characteristic slapstick humor, follows the storyline, but ends with a comic twist."--Container.
