    Summary:
The events take place in the Historic Halifax Public Gardens, as well as across Spring Garden Road in Victoria Park. When the park closes for the night, the statues "come alive", climbing down from their pedestals where they are admired by visitors/patrons during the day. They stretch and prepare to enjoy the luxurious soft grass, the shrubbery, flowers and ponds. One night the nymphs from the Jubilee Fountain (Queen Victoria's Diamond [60th] Jubilee) were in a playful mood and tricked the Juan Swans (erected to the devastating Hurricane Juan, 2003) into flying them out of the gardens to swim in the ocean nearby. They had been intrigued by overhearing visitors who often spoke of arriving by ship and docking in the harbour. However, the swans flew no further than the Linda Oland Fountain with its large basin of water and 24 hour spray. They are quickly followed by Billy Pickering, Halifax hero of the Boer War; Toby, the reclining dog statue from the Convent of the Scared Heart School lawn; along with the three Greek goddesses (Diana , Ceres and Flora) who also leave the gardens. Crossing the street, Billy throws a lasso at Robbie Burns, noted Scottish poet and talks with Walter Scott (Wally) before locating the swans and nymphs swimming in their "ocean'- the Oland Fountain. The swans and nymphs are persuaded to return, but were careful to avoid contact with humans and especially the #1 Spring Garden bus often parked in front of the Burn's statue. It ends with the statues/characters returning to their pedestals to prepare for the opening of the garden gates the next day. NB the illustrations are based on the techniques, style and symbolism used to produce the animated film, A Night at The Museum ... for grades 3-5 ; ages 7-10 perhaps. Contains maps of the Public Gardens and descriptions of the statues.
