Summary:
In 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, Berry Gordy gathered the best musicians from the city's thriving jazz and blues scene for his new record company: Motown. They called themselves the Funk Brothers and they were the greatest hit machine in the history of popular music, backing up such stars as The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Four Tops, etc. In the basement of a small house in Detroit, 'Hitsville, U.S.A.', the Funk Brothers recorded most of their music. This is their story told in documentary form including many performances, archival footage, and interviews.
