Summary:  In the fall of 2004, Nova Scotia's Office of Aboriginal Affairs heard about a significant discovery of Mi'kmaw artifiacts in the muddy bottom of the Mersey River in Queen's County. Nova Scotia Power was repairing six power dams it has on the river and hired CRM Group, a firm of Halifax archaelogists, to search the river bed for artifacts. The archaelogists found more than 20,000 artifacts, some dating back 8,000 years. The Nova Scotia Museum describes it as one of the most significant Mi'kmaq heritage sites in the province.
