    Summary:
Bertie Wooster is at Deverill Hall, Hampshire, pretending to be Gussie Fink-Nottle. Gussie is there pretending to be Bertie while Bertie's friend Catsmeat Pirbright is pretending to be his (or rather Gussie's) valet Meadowes and Jeeves is there as Jeeves but valeting for Bertie (who's really Gussie). Gussie is betrothed to Madeline Bassett, who still thinks Bertie loves her, but is smitten by Corky Pirbright (also known as Cora Starr), who is in love with Esmond Haddock who is making moves on Gertrude Winkworth who is in love with Catsmeat. Add one atheist policeman, five aunts, a pretty parlourmaid, a plague of frogs and a boy with a small but serviceable cosh and even Jeeves is tested.
