    Summary:
"The complete life and times of blues singer Slim Harpo (1924-1970), chronicling his development from local bluesman to R&B star, from the black clubs of Baton Rouge to the white college circuit and national recognition in the 'rock society' of the late 1960s. The lives and careers of other Baton Rouge blues players are examined as context and contrast to Harpo, as is his legacy in relation to the blues music scene in Louisiana"--Provided by publisher.
James Isaac Moore, better known by his stage name Slim Harpo, was an American blues musician, a leading exponent of the swamp blues style, and one of the most commercially successful blues artists of his day.] His most successful and influential recordings included "I'm a King Bee" (1957), "Rainin' In My Heart" (1961), and "Baby Scratch My Back" (1966) which reached no. 1 on the R&B chart. A master of the blues harmonica, his stage name was derived from the popular nickname for that instrument, the "harp"--From wikipedia.org website.
