    Summary:
"The main character is a professor of literature at the University of Oslo and holds a PhD in the "Kongsemnerne" by Ibsen. He is 55 years old and lives at Skillebekk, has been divorced for ten years, has friends and acquaintances from the study period who now has prominent popsitions in his professions. He has a good, albeit distanced relationship with his students - he is just uncertain about the importance of literature. As the novel opens, Andersen is in the process of celebrating Christmas for himself. He stays standing by the window and reflects on Norwegian Christmas monks - and so he witnesses an event he will think about in the weeks that follow. This changes his relationship with the environment in the same period ..."--Google translate from the Norwegian
