When Hitler comes to power, she joins a group of young activists and is arrested for distributing anti-nazi propaganda. Upon release, Gerda realizes she must leave Germany. Once settled in Paris, Gerda meets André Friedmann, a Hungarian photographer easger for fame and fortune, who fosters her interest in photography. Together the pair reinvents their brand of photojournalism under the names Robert Capa and Gerda Taro, and soon they're selling their photos for high prices. Eventually, Gerda's assignments lead her to Spain to cover the growing conflict that is becoming the Spanish Civil War, part of the events preceding World War II. As Gerda pushes closer and closer to the front line, easger to cpature the lives and hopes of the Spanish republican forces fighting against fascism, she steadily loses sight of her own safety in order to capture the perfect shot.
