Yazar bu kitabi on yillik çalisma sonucunda olusturdugu bilinmektedir. Kitap New York Times tarafindan "2009 Yilinin En Iyi Kitaplari” listesinde yer almaktadir. Orhan Pamuk, Masumiyet Müzesi’ni yayimladiktan sonra 2012 yilinda bu romandan esinlenerek romanla ayni adi tasiyan müzeyi hayata geçirmistir. Müze, Istanbul’da kurulan ilk sehir müzesidir. Müzede Istanbul’da yasanan, 1970’li yillardan 2000’li yillara kadar uzanan bir ask hikayesinin anlatildigi objelerin yani sira 1950’li yillarindan itibaren gündelik hayatimizda kullanilan pek çok sayida obje yer almaktadir. Masumuyet Müzesi 2014 senesinde Avrupa Müze Forumu tarafindan "Avrupa Yilin Müze Ödülü”ne layik gÖrülmüstür.
