Summary:  Joliet Junior College English professor Mike Hainzinger started a YouTube channel "Chinese with Mike" where he taught introductory Mandarin Chinese from his garage. In the videos he calls himself "Mike Laoshi" or "Teacher Mike." Now the videos have been collected in a single volume. Students learn the basics, sentence and grammar structure, and some conversational Chinese. This 245-page course book includes two DVDs containing the first 60 videos of Chinese with Mike (which he calls Seasons 1 & 2) and an audio CD with native Chinese speakers. Some of the first lessons are still available for free on YouTube. Season 1 covers pinyin, the four tones and writing system using Simplified Chinese characters, common words, phrases and typical conversations.
