This is the story about the last 20 years of an underground criminal group in Northeast China. Hongbing Zhao comes from a good family. As the son of a government official, he was well-educated and given many opportunities. In his youth, he joined the army was defended his country in the China-Vietnam war. Although he suffered an injury that left him disabled in one hand, we was labelled a military hero. But in 1985, he was demobilized and the loss of use of his hand prevented him from obtaining employment, earning him a new label of disabled person. By mere chance, he again becomes famous by joining a fight between the underground groups for his friend, abandoning his self-pity and participating in a life of crime. As the year go by, Hongbing sees that this new life is not, perhaps, the life he should have chosen, as his friends are either dead, disabled or serving time in jail due to this life of crime. Has he made the right choice? Now that he is reflecting upon his life, what does his future hold?
