    Canadian novelist and short story writerErnest Buckler is best known for his 1952 novel, The Mountain and the Valley. Author Claude Bissell was the eighth president of the University of Toronto from 1958 to 1971. This book is Bissell's scholarly but affectionate tribute to the man Harry Bruce called, "as tortured and lovable a genius as Canadian literature has ever produced."
