    Summary:
After a decade of marriage Willa Jackson feels trapped. Living at a military base in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Willa's husband Charlie has no idea that Willa is unhappy or unfulfilled. After a New Year's party in 1986, Willa becomes fascinated with the sax player from the band. Hugh, the sax player, is also the lightkeeper on an island in the middle of Halifax Harbour. When Charlie is sent on a mission, Willa takes her son Alex and moves onto the island and into the dwelling adjacent to the lighthouse. It is here that the reality of keeping an affair alive confronts Willa. Her son does not like Hugh and the dislike is reciprocated. No better at communication than her husband, Hugh harbours a number of secrets.
