Summary:
"When a well-meaning social worker (Kathy Baker) tries to take two small children from their mother (Laura Dern) and place them in foster homes, their devoted aunt, Emilie (Carla Gugino), decides to rescue them. Without any money or even a plan, Emilie follows her heart, hurries them into her car and flees town. As the trio faces spending the night inside her car, a kind-hearted waitress (Patty Duke) directs them to an old, unoccupied home. When morning breaks, the townspeople mistake Emilie and the children as the home's missing heirs. Wanting to provide the children with shelter, Emilie decides to play along with the charade. The community immediately embraces this young family, including a handsome, but inquisitive police officer (David Conrad). His support gives the children encouragement, and his tenderness wins the heart of Emilie. Though it's just a matter of time until they are discovered, Emilie wants to stay long enough to give the children a Christmas to remember. Then their world seems ready to fall apart yet again, a wise and caring judge steps in, keeping the miracle alive."--Container.
